Qualified Paleontological Monitors - Riverside County, California

Material Culture Consulting, Inc. is hiring Qualified Paleontological Monitors for a large project in Riverside County, California. This is a project-hire position based on the construction schedule. Construction is anticipated to extend for several months, but hours will vary from week to week. For this reason, we are limiting this solicitation to locally available individuals. 

Duties:

1. Paleontological resources construction monitoring according to specific project requirements, which may include fossil salvage, sample collection, laboratory analysis, preparation, and curation. 
2. Collecting accurate field notes and data collection regarding stratigraphy and fossil locality information. 
3. Completion of daily progress/monitoring forms as needed by the project.
4. Use of GPS equipment (Garmin/Trimble) for geospatial data collection.
5. Work independently in the field but interface effectively with office staff and Principal Paleontologist.
6. Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualified Paleontological Monitors must have the equivalent of the following qualifications:

(1) BS or BA degree in geology or paleontology, or (2) AS or AA in geology, paleontology, or biology and demonstrated two years experience collecting and salvaging fossil materials in Southern California, or (3) enrollment in upper division classes pursuing a degree in the fields of geology or paleontology and two years of monitoring experience in Southern California.

Paleontoloical monitors must also demonstrate proficiency in recognizing various types of fossils, in multiple collection methods, and in other paleontological field techniques. 

In addition to technical qualifications, monitors must have a valid drivers license, be computer literate, and demonstrate articulate verbal and writing skills.
