GIS/Archaeological Field Technician

PaleoWest Archaeology seeks a talented and organized part-GIS technician and part-field technician to join our growing Denver/Lafayette, Colorado office. In this role, you will assist with map production and preparation for projects across Colorado and other states. In addition, you will conduct fieldwork as needed, throughout Colorado and possibly in other states. The ideal candidate must have excellent attention to detail and quality control measures. Experience with ArcGIS is strongly preferred; familiarity with GPS and Trimble is a plus. In addition, you must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or another applicable field and have experience conducting archaeological surveys and data recovery in Colorado, Wyoming, and/or New Mexico. Camping up to eight days will be required for field projects. Successful candidates should be motivated, resourceful, dedicated, and organized, and able to walk up to 10 miles per day over uneven terrain. All candidates will work under the supervision of a Project Manager and/or remote GIS Director while in the office, and a Field Director while in the field. Pay will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience.   

 

Job Responsibilities:

·        Organization of pre-fieldwork data using our PaleoWay system

·        Production of maps within ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop 10.4 software

·        Georeferencing and digitizing within ArcMap

·        Conversion to/from tabular data and GPS devices and formats

·        Fieldwork (largely survey), as needed

 

Qualifications:

·        At least one year’s experience with ArcGIS Desktop

·        Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Word

·        Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Anthropology, or related field

·        At least one year’s experience doing fieldwork in Colorado, Wyoming, and/or New Mexico
