Purpose of Position:
This position resides at the Historic Preservation Division in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This position is responsible for conducting Federal Section 106 and State compliance review as required by the National Historic Preservation Act and state law in a professional and timely manner. This position will establish working relationships with federal and state government agencies, tribal groups, contractors, and the public to provide technical assistance and outreach on historic preservation and archaeology of New Mexico. This position will assess the technical sufficiency of consultation reports and other records in accordance with federal and state standards and maintain written files documenting significant deficiencies in reports or site records. This position provides comments on determinations of effect and eligibility of archaeological and ethnographic resources, testing and monitoring plans, data recovery plans and other treatment plans designed to minimize or mitigate adverse effects of archaeological and historic properties, and provide support with reviewing Memorandum of Agreements and Programmatic Agreements.
Due to available budget allocated for this position the hiring rate will not exceed $20.94 per hour.
This position is a Pay Band 65.
Classification Description
Anthropologist & Archeologist Advanced
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Archeology or Anthropology and two (2) years of experience in archeology survey, excavation, analysis and/or reporting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
