Tierra Right of Way Services is seeking a motivated and experienced archaeologist/cultural resources manager who can fulfill the duties of Crew Chief/Field Director in our Phoenix, Arizona office. The successful candidate must be a team player. They must have the ability to multi-task, including supervising multiple small surveys and/or monitoring projects concurrently. Experience directing large block surveys as well as testing and data recovery investigations is also desired. The successful candidate must meet qualifications to be listed in Tierra’s cultural resource investigation permits for the State of Arizona, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and other Federal agencies. The candidates must have knowledge of the literature and practice of prehistoric and historic archaeology in the American Southwest. The position may involve some travel and a current valid driver’s license is required. The successful candidate must be a United States citizen or hold a federally approved work visa.

 Duties include:
Ÿ  Directing fieldwork
Ÿ  Staffing and scheduling input
Ÿ  Writing reports and preparing forms to pertinent agency standards
Ÿ  Delegating tasks to junior staff
Ÿ  Problem resolution in field and office settings
Ÿ  Training archaeological technicians in field methods, preparation of forms, and report writing
Ÿ  Maintaining current knowledge of literature and professional reports
Ÿ  Assisting in the preparation of scopes of work and budgets for proposals
Ÿ  Analyzing collections of cultural materials that fall within your particular analytic specialty

 This is a temporary hourly position to start that may lead to full time employment.

Compensation is competitive, and is based on experience and education. The successful candidate must be based out of our Phoenix, Arizona office.

Minimum qualifications include:

Ÿ  Seven years of experience in CRM at increasing levels of responsibility, such as technician, crew chief, assistant field director, field director, at least three years of which has been in Arizona.
Ÿ  Thorough knowledge of the NHPA Section 106 process and associated federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Ÿ  Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
Ÿ  Focus in a particular analytic specialty in material culture or an aspect of environmental archaeology a plus.
