Montpelier Archaeology

The Montpelier Foundation will be excavating a late 18th early 19th century slave quarter complex near the main house at Montpelier. The field school we run is five weeks and is intensive field and lab training and lectures. Our department have 12 professional archaeology staff who all work with the field school students for an intensive training and mentoring experience. Housing is provided on the Montpelier property.

- Field School runs from May 29-June 29th
- Students can take the course for credit through JMU 
- Students who enroll for credit pay a $400 equipment and housing fee, non credit option is $600 for housing and equipment fee.
- Scholarships for African American students are available to cover the housing and equipment fees.
- Internships are available for recent graduates who take the field school and interview for the position at the end of field school.
- Interns work full-time, are paid with benefits, receive free housing, and work through April 30 of 2019.
