Senior Archaeologist/Project Manager - Eugene, Oregon

Logan Simpson, a growing cultural resources and environmental planning firm, currently seeks a full-time Senior Archaeologist/Project Manager to work out of our Eugene, Oregon office.

Qualifications include possessing or the ability to obtain current permits with a variety of public land managing agencies, with emphasis on Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and California. Duties and responsibilities include demonstrable expertise supervising all aspects of cultural resources survey, site recording and evaluations, and archaeological testing and data recovery throughout Oregon. Candidates should be familiar with the completion of survey and excavation forms, operating GPS units with a data recorder, and conducting quality control/quality assurance reviews of data. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of federal cultural resources regulations, the ability to coordinate and communicate with agencies and clients, and manage budgets and schedules. 

Duties and responsibilities include planning and managing all phases of cultural resources projects including survey; archaeological monitoring, testing and data recovery; technical report production; preparing scopes of work and cost estimates; and meeting project scope, schedule, and budget obligations. This position requires the individual to be self-motivated, and work well in a team-oriented setting.

Individuals must have a proven background supervising and mentoring staff as well as frequently interacting and coordinating with clients and agency representatives in a decision-making role. Candidates must also be knowledgeable of federal, state, and local historic preservation and cultural resources regulations, and demonstrate an established area of analytical expertise and/or archaeological research interest in the region. Demonstrated experience in assisting with preparing cultural resources sections for the National Environmental Policy Act and other environmental planning documents is necessary.

Requirements include:

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Anthropology or closely related field or equivalent experience;
  • 5+ years of Pacific Northwest cultural resources management consulting or agency experience; 2+ years of supervisory/project management experience;
  • Proficiency with technical writing and Microsoft Office products;
  • Ability to obtain permits at the Principal Investigator or Field Director level on Oregon BLM and National Forest. Ability to obtain permits for nearby states (WA, CA, and ID) is desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrable experience independently preparing complex technical documents for a full range of various cultural resources projects.
