Crew Chief Position

Terracon Consultants, Inc. (Terracon) is currently seeking a full-time Archaeological Crew Chief. The Archaeological Crew Chief will work closely with the Project Manager and the Environmental Group Manager and will be responsible for ensuring that the proper survey methods are implemented and all findings are documented in accordance with the applicable Federal and State standards and guidelines. The position will be based out of the Terracon Louisville Kentucky Office.

 
Job responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Carry out archaeological investigations (Phase I survey, Phase II evaluation, Phase III data recovery, and archaeological monitoring);
• Conduct archaeological excavation in both rural and urban environments
Overnight stays on out-of-town projects when required;
• Undertake material culture/artifact analysis and reporting under the direction of the Principal Investigator;
• Supervise/direct an archaeological field crew;
• Become familiar with Terracon’s Project Management system and technical standards in order to support the project managers in the delivery of consulting services to our clients;
• Participate in Terracon’s Health & Safety program and monitor the Health & Safety performance of archaeological field technicians;
• Demonstrate a “Safety First” focus and act as a role model to other staff;
• Maintain a high standard of ethical behavior and uphold Terracon’s reputation
• Work with and provide support to other members of the Environmental Group in assisting with other field and laboratory activities as required;
 
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology and/or Anthropology;
Working knowledge of the Secretary of the Interior’ Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation and familiarity with the survey guidelines for Midwestern, Middle Atlantic, Northeastern and Southeastern states;
Demonstrated experience in archaeological fieldwork supervision and the ability to observe and instruct others in good and efficient field methodology in a high paced environment;
Knowledge and familiarity with GPS and GIS field equipment and applications;
Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
Excellent organizational skills; 
Valid driver’s license; and
Able to pass a drug screen and background check.
