Archaeologist needed - Washington DC

Versar’s Environmental Services Group is seeking a local archaeologist to monitor a new development project in Washington DC.  Project tasks will primarily include monitoring mechanical excavation, detailed note taking, mapping, and photo-documentation.  Supplemental test unit excavation and feature documentation will also be required.  Must be comfortable carrying out field duties independently under the direction of the principal investigator.  In addition to technical capabilities, individuals must be able to meet the requirements of various company and project safety and security requirements (e.g., steel-toed boots and other PPE). Prior experience with construction and mechanical excavation, urban archaeology, and the archaeology of the Washington DC region preferred.  Hourly rate is $22, no per diem.  If interested, please email resume and three references to


·         MA/MS degree in Anthropology closely related field and completion of an accredited field school

·         Ability to successfully compete OSHA 10 certification (paid for by Versar in advance of fieldwork)

·         Ability to read and sketch maps, take quality field photographs and detailed notes

·         Familiarity with historic material and feature types

·         A fundamental knowledge of historic and prehistoric sites in the Mid-Atlantic United States
