Job Description: aci consulting has an opening in the Austin, Texas, area for a Cultural Resources Specialist. The individual will be able to complete a variety of tasks, and will begin with temporary employee status, with the possibility of increasing responsibility and possibly even career advancement within a dynamic environmental compliance firm.

The ideal candidate will be an eager researcher, skilled at technical report writing, and have a specialty in one or more of the following: Geoarcheology, Historic Archeology, Architecture History, or lithic analysis. The immediate needs for the position are to assist in the completion of a data recovery project, and to assist in survey and NRHP testing-level field work.

The candidate must possess the technical knowledge to conduct archeological surveys, and to properly identify and record historic properties. This work includes the documentation of archeological sites with photography, the accurate completion of site forms, feature descriptions, sketch mapping, the utilization of GPS devices, and a field recommendation as to the site’s eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Effective communication and organization skills, as well as good judgment, are required of the candidate to successfully conduct field efforts.

Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures), and must be willing to travel. Candidates should also have a positive attitude, be team oriented, maintain a strong work ethic, and have willingness to learn and execute new tasks. The candidate must be able to work independently and possess good judgment.

Requirements: Qualified candidates should possess a Master's degree in Archeology, Anthropology, or a related field, and a minimum of 2 years of experience working in Cultural Resource Management in some capacity. The candidate must be able to qualify for and successfully obtain a permit under the Antiquities Code of Texas. Prior experience in obtaining and completing Texas Antiquities Permits is preferred. Candidate should be a Registered Professional Archaeologist or be qualified to be one at the time of hiring. Candidates must have prior experience managing projects, personnel, and budgets in an efficient, resourceful, and professional manner.
