Assistant Lab Director - Fairfax County Park Authority, Virginia


The Archaeology and Collections Branch of the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) is currently accepting applications for an assistant lab director to assist with archaeological lab operations under the direction of the lab director.  Duties are varied and include cataloging artifacts, managing lab staff, researching artifacts, preparing collections for permanent curation according to professional standards, developing and/or updating procedures, and coordination with field staff.  The FCPA archaeological program is public, engaging the interested public and working with volunteers with a range of experience.  The assistant lab director has specific responsibilities for maintaining the online volunteer management system and tasking and supervising lab volunteers.  Knowledge of historical and Native American material culture is required.  A BA in Archaeology, Anthropology, History or related field is strongly preferred.  Likewise preference will be given to applicants with experience in MS Access and/or ArcGIS.

This position is classified as a Limited Term Employees (LTE) and as such are not eligible for paid holidays, paid vacation, or retirement.  Funding for relocation is not available.  A range of medical benefits are available for purchase through Fairfax County at a reasonable price.  Compensation will range between is $16.50 and $18.50/hr based on qualifications and experience.  In general, the work schedule is Tuesday through Saturday with some flexibility possible.  Some weekend hours or off hour special events may be required.  LTEs are limited to 1560 hours per calendar year, approximately 30 hrs/wk or nine months full time.
