Summary
This position is a partnership position between the Pacific West Region (PWR) Cultural Resource Program and San Juan Island National Historical Park. The physical location of the position will reside in the town of Friday Harbor, and be administratively supervised by San Juan Island National Historical Park's Superintendent. Technical supervision for the position will be provided by PWR's Regional Archaeology & Museum Program Manager. The long-term goal for this position is for the incumbent to support the broader North Coast & Cascades Network which will include the following parks: San Juan Island National Historical Park, Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve/Reuble Farmstead, Seattle Area National Park Sites, North Cascades National Park, Olympic National Park, Mount Rainier National Park, Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, and Lewis and Clark National Historical Park.
This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season for San Juan Island National Historical Park is January through November, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.
This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-Time appointment.

Responsibilities
Direct an intricate program of cultural anthropology/ethnography activities that involve sensitive and complex issues that may impact a wide variety of park or multi-park issues;
Advise park management on park natural (geophysical areas, flora and fauna) and cultural ethnographic resources (sites, structures, objects, and landscapes) and the contemporary people who value them;
Develop and implement long range plans for the inventory, evaluation, documentation, preservation, research and interpretation of cultural anthropological resources within a park or regional context.
Make significant contributions to cultural resources management plans, long range interpretive plans, and other documents such as plans specific to cultural anthropology and/or ethnographic studies, strategic plans, park management plans, and fiscal and budget documents;
Prepare written reports and/or make presentations in parks, public gatherings, and professional meetings on anthropological resources and research results.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
