Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) is currently seeking a Project Archaeologist (Archaeological Technician) to assist with upcoming fieldwork. This work is expected to begin in early July and could last up to eight weeks or more. These are temporary hourly positions; hours may vary depending on project-specific workload. Preference is given to applicants living within a one hour radius of ESI’s Raleigh, NC office. Applicants must demonstrate prior CRM fieldwork experience (at least two years), particularly at the Phase I level, and possess at minimum, a B.A. in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field.

 

The average work day will consist of excavation of shovel tests as well as 1-x-1 meter or larger test unit excavations. In addition, the candidate:

·               Must be willing to work in outdoor setting and (on occasion) in extreme environments (e.g. heat, cold, etc.)

·               Must be willing to work in hazardous conditions and execute appropriate safety protocols (e.g. insects, poisonous plants, rough terrain, etc.)

·               Must be able to lift, carry or otherwise move and position objects weighing up to 50 lbs.

·               Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work

·               Must be able to travel as needed, including out-of-town stays

 

The pay rate for the position is based on previous CRM experience (typically $13.00–$15.00/hour) for this temporary assignment. Lodging (single occupancy) and per diem are provided for work days. Because of the temporary nature of this position, benefits are not included.
