Experience in Microsoft Outlook or similar email system.

Experience and Other Skills Required

One year of related archaeological research or cultural resources management experience.

Basic engineering or scientific equipment ordinarily used in archaeological research.

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Excellent time management skills.

Ability to travel and conduct fieldwork for extended period (crew occasionally works 10-hrs/day; some out-of-town work requires 10 day field effort). Per diem at state rates and single hotel room covered during overnight travel.

Experience in Phase I and II archaeological testing and linear survey projects.

Ability to conduct fieldwork in inclement weather (excessive heat, rain, etc.) and carry equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. through rugged terrain while shovel testing at prescribed intervals.

Valid Texas Driver’s License or ability to obtain one by the first day of employment.

Two years of related archaeological research or cultural resources management experience.

Experience in archaeological monitoring and Phase III data recovery highly preferred.

Trimble GPS proficiency highly preferred.

Position will entail lab work when not conducting fieldwork.

Some knowledge of specialized research equipment.

Description of Job Duties

Familiarity with conducting fieldwork according to scope of work provided.

Unit excavation, photography and exploratory trenching with special attention to detail recordation.

Makes and records observations and measurements.

Sets up and operates apparatus or equipment.

Analyzes samples.

Conducts specified phases of research projects.

Collects and organizes information for various reports.

Attention to safety considerations, professional interpersonal communication, problem solving.

Professional, detailed field paperwork: shovel test forms, field maps, photo logs, etc.,

Perform data collection using a Trimble GPS unit.

Communicating any issue (safety, injury, heat stress, etc.) to crew chief to facilitate timely resolution.

Follow direction of Crew Chief or Field Director in support of the research design and project execution.

Performs other duties as assigned.
