Archaeological Field Supervisor


Michael Baker International is seeking an Archaeological Field Supervisor for our Moon Township, PA location. This is a Temporary position, with the future potential of becoming full-time. The starting hourly rate is $22.00 per hour.
So what does an Archaeological Field Supervisor at Michael Baker International do?
An Archaeological Field Supervisor would be responsible for overseeing daily field operations on Phase I, II, and III archaeological investigations.  They are responsible for implementing testing strategies, maintaining detailed field notes and survey maps, recording and interpreting stratigraphy, and reviewing all field data recorded by technicians.  It is expected through the course of the field survey that an Archaeological Field Supervisor will be able to develop a preliminary interpretation of any identified cultural materials relative to distribution both horizontally and vertically.  An Archaeological Field Supervisor may be responsible for contributing to project reports for review by state and federal agencies. 
A typical day for an Archaeological Field Supervisor may consist of managing field crews and field logistics, coordinating with landowners and clients, maintaining and reviewing field notes, producing field maps, photo documentation, conducting tailgate safety meetings, recording and interpreting stratigraphy, and providing daily office updates.  Archaeological Field Supervisors are expected to work closely with the Principal Investigator to ensure that field work is being implemented and conducted to meet project goals. 
 Could you be the Archaeological Field Supervisor we are looking for?
  • Minimally possess Four-year degree, an advanced degree (M.A. or Ph.D.) in Archaeology or Cultural Resource Management is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrate a minimum 5 to 7 years of experience in supervising archaeological surveys (Phase I, II, and III) and all tasks detailed above.
  • Must meet the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and Guidelines for archaeological investigators.  
  • Must have a working knowledge of land navigation (i.e. compass orienteering, Trimble GPS).
  • Strong technical writing skills, familiarity with MS Word, Excel, Access, CAD, ESRI ARC GIS, GPS, and RPA certification are also preferred.
