Field Technicians - Texas

Gray & Pape, Inc. is looking for Field Technicians for a Phase I survey in Texas.  Work is set to begin September 6th and is expected to last 3-4 weeks.  Individual hotel rooms will be provided and per diem is $36/day for eligible persons.  Wage rates are $12-$15, dependent on experience.  The Field Technician is responsible for performing a range of field activities including shovel testing, unit excavation, feature excavation, and surface collection. QUALIFICATIONS:

1.                   B.A./B.S. in Anthropology or related field (with prior coursework in, or demonstrated knowledge of, archaeology, prehistory and history) plus archaeological field school experience

2.                   Familiarity with the common systems of maintaining provenience (grid layout, piece-plotting, natural versus arbitrary stratigraphy, pacing and compass work, and transect work).

3.                   Legible handwriting and note-taking skills.

4.                   Demonstrated work reliability

5.                   Ability to follow instructions.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

             The employee must be able to walk up to 6-8 miles per day over uneven, sometimes steep, heavily vegetated terrain carrying up to 25 lbs. of equipment.

             The employee must be able to systematically excavate natural soil strata using hand tools to include shovels and trowels.

             The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 60 pounds.
