A Field Archaeologist/Editorial Specialist (Research Associate II Special) position with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is located at Fort Riley, Kansas. This position will assist with, among other things, archaeological fieldwork, report construction and editing, artifact analysis and curation, site monitoring, administrative support, public outreach, and training.

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at CSU. CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DOD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Required Job Qualifications: 
  • A BS/BA in anthropology, history, or closely related field, plus three years of professional experience in archaeology and cultural resources management, is required.
  • Candidates must have a demonstrated knowledge of archaeological survey methodology, site testing methodology, and field data recording.
  • The ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and rugged terrain with minimum supervision, as well as experience with Microsoft Office, are a must.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally eligible to work in the United States by the desired start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position. Candidate must be able to comply with all applicable regulations to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC). Furthermore, candidates are required at a minimum to complete a NACI/SF85 and successfully pass a federal background check.
  • Preferred Job Qualifications: 
  • Experience with GIS and Geomorphology preferred.Preference will be given to applicants with experience writing, preparing, and/or contributing to archaeological surveys and site examination reports.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (as amended), 36 CFR 800, Archeological Resources Protection Act, Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, Army Regulation 200-1, and other pertinent laws and regulations governing historic properties is desired.
  • Experience with historic and Great Plains archaeology and experience with directing archaeological surveys, determinations of eligibility for listing in the National Register of Historic Places, analysis of archaeological materials, and conducting basic research is a plus.
  • An MS/MA in anthropology, history, or closely related field is preferred.
