Archaeological Field Technicians needed in Tacoma, Washington

North Wind Resource Consulting, LLC, (North Wind) an enterprise of the Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC), is seeking qualified temporary field technician to assist with archaeological construction monitoring work in Tacoma, Washington. Pay will be commensurate with skills and experience. The project is local in Tacoma WA and lodging/per diem is not available. 

Qualifications

A B.A/B.S in Anthropology/Archaeology and completion of an accredited field school are required. Successful applicants will be in good physical condition and have experience performing daily archaeological fieldwork in a variety of field conditions.

Responsibilities

  •          Knowledge of precontact and historical-period archaeology of the Puget Sound, WA Region is necessary.
  •       The ability to recognize and document artifacts and or other cultural materials, ability to write detailed daily field notes, photographs of artifacts and discoveries, and mapping discovery locations where that may be necessary.
  •          The ability to work independently is essential to this position.
  •     Past experience conducting archaeological monitoring in the Pacific Northwest, working with and around construction equipment and communication with operators, and trench safety are highly desirable.

Physical Demands

Position will require extensive physical exertion, such as walking up to 10 hours a day at speeds of at least 3 mph over steep, uneven, heavily wooded, hostile terrain in outdoor heat /cold stress conditions and weather elements such as wind, snow or rain. Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment; ability to lift a minimum of 80 lbs.; ability to dig and excavate at least 1 cu meter per day; potential contact with poisonous plants, insects and animals.  Individual must be able to conduct these tasks while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.  This work may be performed in remote locations and require camping.
