Cultural Resource Specialist

Established in 1999, Transcon Environmental, Inc., offers environmental consulting services throughout the western United States with offices in Arizona, California, and Utah. Our highly successful team of environmental planners, biologists and archaeologists provides environmental planning, permitting, and compliance as well as infrastructure siting, Class I and Class III studies, Historic Property Treatment Plans, and environmental construction management and monitoring.
We are seeking a full-time cultural resources specialist for assignments located in Northern California. Primary duties include report writing and background research, leading and coordinating surveys and testing projects, and evaluate resources for the National Register and California Register. Occasional field work will be required, such as assessing specified location(s) for cultural resources and monitoring cultural resources during utility operation and maintenance activities. Fieldwork will include both one-day and multiple-day assignments. Candidates applying for this position will be based out of Transcon’s Santa Rosa office.
• Graduate degree in archaeology, or closely related field
• Proficiency in California prehistoric or historic archaeology
• At least five years of full-time professional experience in archaeological research
or cultural resource management
• Ability to perform work duties independently with short deadlines
• Ability to manage small crews and work with other disciplines
• Highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, dependable and trustworthy
• Strong writing and editing skills
• Proficiency with sub-meter GPS
• Interaction with State Historic Preservation Offices and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices
• Excellent navigational skills and a good driving record
• Previously permitted as a Field Director/Crew Chief for federal and state agencies (Bureau of Land Management, State offices, US Forests, and Bureau of Reclamation)
• Experience driving a four-wheeled vehicle off-road or in rough terrain
• Familiarity with typical electrical utility operations and maintenance activities
• Familiarity with FCC, NHPA, Section 106 and 110
• Experience working around heavy machinery and communicating with construction crews
This position is exempt (salary), and eligible for full benefits. On multiple day assignments, employee will be reimbursed for meals and lodging. We anticipate that employment will begin in October 2018. Applicants must have a clean driving record for at least 5 years prior to the start of work. Offers of employment will be contingent on the candidate passing drug and alcohol testing.
