Field Director/Project Archaeologist NY, NJ & Eastern PA


Archaeology & Historic Resource Services, LLC (AHRS) is seeking a motivated and experienced archaeologist who can fulfill the duties of Field Director/Project Archaeologist for projects throughout New Jersey, New York, NYC and Eastern Pennsylvania for upcoming projects that we expect to extend throughout the fall 2018 and into spring/summer 2019.


The successful candidate must be a team player. He/she must have the ability to multi-task, including supervising multiple small surveys and/or monitoring projects concurrently. Experience directing Phase IB, II and III archaeological surveys and artifact analysis. The candidates must have knowledge of the prehistoric and historic archaeology in the American Northeast. The position may involve some travel.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

·         Directing fieldwork

·         Writing reports and preparing forms to pertinent agency standards

·         Problem resolution in field

·         Training archaeological technicians in field methods, preparation of forms, and report writing

·         Analyzing collections of cultural materials that fall within your particular analytic specialty



             Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field.

             Minimum of 4 years of experience in the archaeological/cultural resources field with at least 1 year supervising field crews.

             Focus in a particular analytic specialty in material culture.

             Excellent technical writing and time management skills.

             Demonstrated experience with the application of standard archaeological survey and excavation techniques.

             Ability to travel and Conduct fieldwork activities in a safe and responsible manner, sometimes in adverse conditions and remote areas.

             OSHA 40 Hour Certification a plus, will pay for annual refresher classes.


Compensation is competitive, and is based on experience and education (Minimum starting pay is $24/hr). The successful candidate have the opportunity to work out their home for report writing with travel for fieldwork required.
