SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Cultural Resource Specialist for our growing Flagstaff, Arizona office. This is a full-time, permanent, hourly position with full medical, vacation, and sick time benefits.

The cultural resources specialist will assist SWCA project/field director(s) and the Flagstaff team leader with all aspects of cultural resources survey, monitoring, and excavation fieldwork, data collection, collections inventory, and some laboratory analysis work. The specialist will assist with reporting efforts, conduct archival research, literature reviews, prepare site forms, and conduct data entry. The specialist also will assist SWCA's other nationwide offices with field and reporting projects, as needed.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or a closely related field is required
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience with a range of field methodologies; including survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring
  • Must have completed an accredited Field School, equivalent work experience, or government-issued tribal monitor training
  • Ability to travel to a location, walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, often at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds is required
  • Ability to work on extended field sessions away from home, out of state, for 8+ day work sessions, sometimes camping, is required
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Local candidates living in Flagstaff or surrounding communities, preferred.
