Full Time Archaeological Technician

Grouse Mountain Environmental Consultants located in Buffalo, Wyoming is seeking one full time archaeological field technician for project work throughout Wyoming. The minimum qualifications and requirements for the archaeological field technician position are:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or archaeology, or a minimum of 18 hours of anthropology or archaeology course work with two months field experience and a field school
  • Experience in a range of field techniques including; pedestrian survey, site testing, excavation; experience in completion of site and isolated resource field forms, and proficiency with Microsoft Operating Systems and software
  • Experience with a handheld GPS unit for navigation and data collection, topographic maps, and a compass is required
  •  Familiarity with cultural resource law and regulation and the ability to understand, implement and adhere to established data collection, inventory, and recording protocols
  • Detail oriented and the capacity to collect and maintain field data in an organized manner that is easily understood and accessible to other resource staff
  • Knowledge of historic and prehistoric history and artifacts of the High Plains preferred
  • Demonstrate an ability to work independently as well as cooperatively as part of a team, and communicate effectively both written and orally
  • Ability to travel out of town, possess a clean and valid driver’s license, and the ability to safely operate a four-wheel drive vehicle or standard transmission on backcountry roads
  • Ability to carry a backpack with equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, and be in overall good physical condition
  • Project work will be outside and in environments which may require hiking to remote and rugged locations during periods of extreme heat or cold for consecutive days
  • Show proficiency in technical writing
  • Hourly rate $15 to $18 based on experience
