Project Archaeologist- Austin, TX

AmaTerra Environmental, Inc. (AmaTerra), an award-winning, woman-owned, small business is seeking a Project Archaeologist/Field Director for our Austin, Texas office. This is a full time, salaried position with benefits. The successful applicant will work alongside our existing staff serving a variety of federal, state, municipal and private clients. Ideal candidates will have a MA degree or equivalent in anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field and two or more years of professional archaeological experience working on surveys, testing and data recovery projects, or in the lab.

Desired knowledge, skills and abilities include:



·         Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Working knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to cultural resources

·   Experience in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and/or Arkansas (preferred but not necessary)

·         Experience writing technical archaeology reports

·         Ability to lead crews in a variety of field settings

·    Specific research interests and/or technical skills such as remote sensing, faunal analysis, lithic technology, the historic period, or geomorphology.

Successful candidates must also have the ability to:

·         travel up to 50 percent of the time,

·         walk up to 10 miles a day,

·         dig shovel tests to depths of up to one meter,

·         lift buckets weighing 40 pounds

·         work outdoors in 90+ degree heat.

Job responsibilities will include planning field projects, leading field crews on various survey, testing, and data recovery projects, report writing, client interface, and working with junior and senior staff in the Austin and Las Cruces Offices.
