POSITION DESCRIPTION


Title: Seasonal Ranger – Cultural Resources

Supervisor: Chief of Integrated Resources & Assistant Park Manager

Base Wage: $10.10 per hour

Start: April 7, 2019

End: September 7, 2019

Schedule: 40-hour weeks, generally 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., typically weekdays, but may

include some weekends and holidays


Purpose:

To assist the Chief of Integrated Resources with condition assessments of archaeological sites found at City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park and perform other cultural and natural resources related activities.


Duties:

Record/update and map archaeological sites to current standards

Manage GPS/GIS data (ArcGIS & ArcCollector), photos, and other cultural resources data

Research and analyze artifacts and prepare site forms

Monitor trail construction for cultural resources

Assist with special events including re-enactments

Lead interpretive hikes for visitors

Participate in natural resources inventories and monitoring as needed

Other park duties as needed


Minimum Qualifications:

Legal U.S. resident, with valid driver’s license

Ability to work independently and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and terrain, sometimes alone, especially in the backcountry, and follow safety protocols


Desired Skills and Certifications:

Degree (or pursuing degree) in Anthropology or related field

Completion of an accredited archaeological field school

Good interpersonal skills with colleagues and visitors

Works well under direct supervision and independently when needed to achieve set goals

Desire to learn and communicate the nationally significant values of the National Reserve

Experience with GPS and ArcGIS platforms

Comfortable using Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, and Access
