Overview

HNTB is currently seeking part-time archaeological field technicians for several upcoming projects in the Southeast. Duties may include assisting the Senior Cultural Resources Staff with a range of archaeological fieldwork including survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring. Candidates based in Georgia and surrounding states are preferred.

Job Summary

Performs limited assignments under direction of more senior Scientist. Assists in performing basic scientific studies, documentations and investigations at project sites and phases or projects, including planning, design, program management and construction.

Essential Responsibility

  • Under direction of more senior Scientist, follows clearly established data collection methods to assist in conducting research projects and surveys.
  • Supports research efforts by gathering basic information from government agencies and clients, reviewing maps, assisting in field investigations among other supporting activities.
  • Based on prescribed methodology, sets up test equipment at proposed construction site to obtain scientific data.
  • Using established prescribed templates, prepares written reports, maps and statements of geologic, hydrologic, biologic and/or other scientific findings at project site as it relates to the design and construction of projects.
  • Maintains administrative records, collections and files related to specific projects.
  • Keeps current with trends, literature and new developments in ecology and environmental science.
  • Assists team in the production of project deliverables.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or related field

Preferred Qualification/Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field with completion of an accredited field school
• One year of archaeological field experience in the southeast United States
• Experience with a range of Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment
• Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and adverse field conditions
• Able to navigate using a compass and maps or handheld GPS units
• Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 40 lbs

General Work Conditions

Office Environment: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to potentially unpleasant working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently, and reach horizontally as well as vertically for overhead use.
