Bay Area Cultural Resources Monitors


Cogstone Resource Management Inc. seeks reliable, responsible monitors to perform work in Santa Clara County, California. Knowledge of California prehistoric and historical archaeology and current 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification are required.  Respirator fitting a plus. Temporary full-time position for 4-5 weeks with potential for overtime.


Job Description

Cultural resources monitors must be able to stand for ten hours although most projects work eight hour days.

Monitors are responsible to document project activities and finds through notes and photographs. Safety and other types of training are required and paid by the company. Ability to work well with construction crews and colleagues and to follow specific protocols is necessary. Previous mitigation experience is preferred.



      40-hour HAZWOPER certification REQUIRED

      California experience is preferred

      BA in Anthropology or a closely related field. Upper class Anthropology Juniors and Seniors also may apply.

      Ability to conduct field work for long hours, in possible inclement weather conditions and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds

      Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and their own vehicle


Skill Requirements

      Restraint - the company prohibits any social media posting of work-related content and violation is a termination offense.

      Confidence in the construction environment

      Proficiency in use of tablets and standard office software

      Excellent field notes

      Experience in paleontology a plus

      Ability to work independently with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team

      Self-motivated with strong initiative



Competitive pay rate is commensurate with education and experience.
