Monitor in San Luis Obispo, CA

Cogstone Resource Management Inc. seeks reliable, responsible monitors to perform work in the San Luis Obispo area of California. Work is anticipated to consist of some part time work and some periods of full time work.  Locals are preferred. Knowledge of California prehistoric archaeology is required. Willing to train local graduate students.

 

Job Description

Cultural resources monitors must be able to stand for ten hours although most projects work eight hour days.  Monitors are responsible to document project activities and finds through notes and photographs.  Safety and other types of training are required and paid by the company.  Ability to work well with construction crews and colleagues and to follow specific protocols is necessary.  Previous mitigation experience is preferred but not required. 

 

Qualifications

·         BA in Anthropology or a closely related field

·         Two years of  experience is preferred

·         Competency in field and laboratory work

·         Ability to conduct field work for long hours, in possible inclement weather conditions and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds

·         Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and their own vehicle

·         Supervisory experience a plus

 

Skill Requirements

·         Restraint - the company prohibits any social media posting of work-related content and violation is a termination offense.

·         Confidence in the construction environment

·         Excellent field notes

·         Experience in paleontology a plus

·         Ability to work independently with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team

·         Self-motivated with strong initiative

Compensation

Competitive pay rate is commensurate with education and experience.
