Archaeologist II


Cardno is seeking a full-time Archaeologist II/Field Director for our Seattle, WA or Portland, OR office. The successful candidate would be part of our Pacific Northwest cultural resources team, consisting of archaeologists, architectural historians, historians, ethnographers, and GIS specialists. Responsibilities will include directing and completing archaeological survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring, as well as artifact identification, maintaining field forms, site recordation, drafting site forms and reports, and assisting senior staff with marketing. The position will include both local and out-of-state work, requiring travel to other states. All applicants must be authorized to work in the US.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

> All phases of archaeological work including pedestrian survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring
> Report and form preparation
> Technical writing
> Data management
> Supervision and mentoring of junior staff
> Provide support to senior staff

Basic Qualifications:

> Graduate degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field of study with Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or closely related field of study
> At least 4 years of relevant experience required with at least 2 of those years in field archaeology in the Pacific Northwest and 2 of those years in archaeology in leadership or field director role
> Qualified or ability to qualify as an Oregon Qualified Archaeologist and Oregon Department of Transportation Qualified Archaeologist
> Qualified or ability to qualify as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA)
> Meet Secretary of the Interior (SOI) qualifications for archaeology
> Knowledge of material culture and/or osteology and/or geoarchaeology
> Knowledge of Northwest Coast and Plateau culture areas
> Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
> Ability and willingness to frequently travel to field sites that will be located in and out of state
> Working knowledge of GPS handheld units
> Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and walk up to ten miles per day in varying terrain and weather
> Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
