Title: Project Director
Location: Albuquerque, NM

Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), a cultural resources management (CRM) consulting firm, has one full-time position available for a project director (PD) based out of its Albuquerque, New Mexico, office. This position will primarily support a long-term field project in southeast New Mexico.

About SRI:

Statistical Research, Inc. (SRI), is certified as a woman-owned small business (www.sricrm.com). SRI was established in 1983 to provide a vehicle for creative people to do interesting and exciting work on the human condition. In meeting the goals of this unique mission, SRI responds to our nation's goal of preserving its diverse historical, paleontological, and cultural values by integrating exciting research with compliance work and providing timely and cost-effective services in CRM and historic preservation. SRI provides comprehensive CRM services to private and government clients at the federal, state, and local levels throughout the western United States from offices in New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Washington.

SRI offers a compensation package that includes competitive pay, professional development, and a comprehensive benefits package. The latter includes medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; a retirement plan, and paid vacation/sick and holiday leave. The salary for this position will be commensurate with the applicant's credentials and experience.

Qualifications and Experience:

The ideal candidate will have an M.A. or M.S. degree in anthropology or archaeology; have a focus on prehistoric archaeology in New Mexico or the greater Southwest; be Register of Professional Archaeologist accredited; have a working knowledge of federal and state cultural resource statutes and regulations; have an ability to hold permits across New Mexico; and possess a minimum of five years of field experience with at least two years’ experience as a field supervisor on survey, testing, and data recovery projects. Demonstrated prior experience serving as lead author for National of Historic Preservation Act–compliance reports and conducting GPS data collection and digital data entry in the field is also desirable.

Job Description:

The Project Director (PD) is responsible for preparing and implementing survey, testing, monitoring, and the data recovery plans and for coordinating through the appropriate channels all field and analytical tasks associated with fieldwork, analysis, and report preparation, including report writing. This work typically involves traveling and/or fieldwork. The PD is responsible for report writing and for having a solid understanding of the basics of CRM.

For small- and medium-sized projects, the PD may also take on many of the tasks typically assigned to a principal investigator (PI), though he or she is still ultimately responsible to the PI for the given project. For larger projects, the PD works with the PI and the project manager to ensure that all tasks associated with the project implementation are accomplished professionally and in a timely and fiscally responsible manner. For all projects in which he or she participates, the PD is responsible for meeting his or her deadlines, remaining on budget, and for meeting SRI’s standard of care.

A PD will typically work on 2–3 projects simultaneously, and is expected to be able to multitask. He or she will often be responsible for training crew members and crew chiefs in archaeological field methods. The ability to work harmoniously and productively with other SRI staff and clients is essential. The PD is expected to be a professionally active member of the discipline. Finally, the PD is expected to conduct herself/himself in a manner appropriate to an SRI staff member at all times.
