2 Field Technicians needed immediately for short duration linear survey in Eastern Montana starting about May 10 or 15 lasting 3 to 4 weeks

ACR Consultants, Inc. a cultural resource management company based out of Sheridan, Wyoming seeks two archeological technicians for Class III cultural resource survey and testing. Work will consist primarily of field survey and cultural resource recording, testing and evaluation. Work will be starting ASAP and is expected to last about 3 weeks to 1 month, approximately until early-to-mid June. Local or regional preferred.

Job information:

  • Pay rate is between 14.50 and 17.00 / hr based on experience and education.
  • Field sessions will typically be 8 days on / 6 days off or possibly 4 days on / 3 days off.
  • Work days are typically 10 hours.
  • Per diem ($40/day) and hotel (single rooms) are provided on work days.
  • Drive time to and from meeting point to field locations is paid.


Required crew member qualifications and responsibilities:

  • Previous CRM field experience or archeological field school.
  • Possess (or pursuing) Bachelor’s degree in Archeology or closely related field.
  • Previous pedestrian survey and shovel testing experience preferred.
  • Experience in the mountain west, especially Wyoming and Montana, preferred.
  • Ability to :
    • Navigate using UTM coordinate system.
    • Read and understand a map and maintain orientation using handheld GPS unit.
    • Fill out appropriate forms in an efficient and professional manner.
    • Work as a member of a team with good communication skills.
    • Conduct fieldwork in inclement weather (rain, high winds, extreme heat etc).
    • Follow direction of the crew chief.
    • Hike 8-10 miles per day in possibly steep terrain while carrying up to 40 lbs. of survey equipment (shovel, screens, tarps) necessary for site recording and testing as well as needed personal gear (including water, food, rain gear etc).
    • Carry and maintain any required field equipment.
