Job Description

Arcadis is seeking a Part-Time Staff Archaeologist for Archaeological Monitoring for a construction project near Marysville, CA. Construction is expected to be 7 days per week with long daily hours. This position will therefore be split between two people approximately 40 hours a week each from July 2019 until November 2019.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct archaeological monitoring.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Serve as a Staff Archaeologist for the Project.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., rugged and unfamiliar terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures). 
  • The ability to travel to different project locations.
  • The ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, as well as, carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Conduct shovel testing, pedestrian survey, and site documentation.
  • Prepare technical analyses and documents.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of experience in cultural resources management
  • Master’s degree in archaeology or a related field
  • Must meet Secretary of Interior Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology (48 FR44738-39)
  • Demonstrated experience in northern California
  • Demonstrated experience conducting and completing archaeological fieldwork
  • Demonstrated experience leading archaeological fieldwork or archaeological projects
  • Working knowledge of GPS systems or collector
  • Strong technical writing and communications skills
  • Ability to work with a team including internal staff and external clients
  • Basic knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in geographic information system (GIS) mapping, geoarchaeology, or geophysical survey
  • Fieldwork experience in the western U.S. (e.g. Nevada)
