Assistant Collections Manager - Fairfax County, VA

The Fairfax County Park Authority’s Archaeology and Collections Branch is seeking a candidate for a term-position in collections management for archaeological collections for potential concurrent limited terms of 1560 hours (30 hours/week) per year.

 

Job duties include: updating and creating accession records, database entry and management, upgrading collections care to meet current standards, IPM tasks, and supervision of interns, volunteers, and junior staff.  This position is technical in nature and will not generally involve outreach, interpretation, or education outside of volunteer supervision. This work requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with frequent lifting and carrying of items up to 25 pounds.

 

Required qualifications:  Strong understanding of museum standards and accession procedures, proficiency with database applications, 2 years’ experience working in a technical role in an archaeological laboratory setting.

 

Preferred qualifications:  MA in Museum Studies or related sub-field, experience with Proficio’s Re:Discovery software, supervisory experience, archaeological field and lab experience, technical report writing and editing.

 

Salary: $22-25/hr., benefits eligible (This position may not exceed 1560 hours per calendar year. Individuals in these positions are eligible for limited employee benefits, including medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage, and participation in flexible spending programs but are not eligible to earn sick leave or receive holiday pay.)
