GIS/Cultural Resources Technician Job (US-PA-Harrisburg)

Overview

McCormick Taylor, Inc.’s Cultural Resources Group (based out of Harrisburg, PA) is seeking to hire a GIS Technician on a permanent, full-time basis to support the group’s work of archaeological and architectural history investigations. In addition to GIS-based duties, candidates should have a Cultural Resources background in either archaeology, history, or architectural history and be capable in one of those fields, minimally, at an entry level.

Responsibilities

Candidates will need to be able to regularly utilize ArcGIS desktop 10.x and ArcGIS Pro to:

  • Produce high quality cartographic layouts with data driven pages
  • Analyze data using various extensions, including spatial analysis
  • Utilize DEM and DSM data to produce data subsets, perform analysis, and produce maps
  • Georeference historic maps
  • Import and utilize CADD data within ArcGIS software
  • Use ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Online to create databases and publish services
  • Create and configure maps using ArcGIS Online
  • Support field crews collecting GPS data with Esri’s Collector Application

Qualifications

A preferred candidate will possess 0-3 years of GIS experience. A minor or higher education certificate in GIS or geography is preferred but not required.

Candidates also exhibiting the following will be preferred.

  • Completed an accredited archaeological field school
  • Minimally, a minor in anthropology/archaeology, history, or closely related field

Candidates should also be able to perform all potential field-related activities including strenuous fieldwork in varied weather conditions, hiking, and carrying gear. The ability to travel to conduct fieldwork would be required at least periodically.

Any previous work or training in the field of Cultural Resource Management (CRM) and having knowledge of Section 106 of the 1966 Historic Preservation Act would be beneficial.
