Bay Area and Northern California Cultural Resources Technicians

Cogstone Resource Management Inc. seeks local, reliable, responsible cultural resource technicians to perform work in the San Francisco Bay area and in Northern California. Knowledge of California prehistoric and historical archaeology is required. As a staff member of a small business, Cultural Resources Technicians will be required  to perform a variety of tasks which include but are not limited to: excavation, field survey, lab work, monitoring, report writing, among others. Accepting both full time and part time applications. Previous experience is preferred. Current 40 HAZWOPR trained a plus.

 

Job Description

Cultural resources technicians  provide technical support to professional archaeologists utilizing a basic understanding of anthropological and archaeological field techniques in connection with locating, testing, and evaluating cultural resource sites. Conducts pre-field research, field surveys, and site testing using a variety of reference materials. Search areas of proposed projects for evidence of historic and prehistoric remains. Determine exact location of sites and marks them on maps and aerial photographs. Insure that work assignments are carried out in a safe and timely manner according to established standards and procedures. Cleans and catalogs artifacts. Must be able to stand for ten hours although most projects work eight hour days. Ability to work well with construction crews and colleagues and to follow specific protocols is necessary.

 

Qualifications

      California cultural resource experience

      BA in Anthropology or a closely related field. Upper class Anthropology Juniors and Seniors also may apply.

      Ability to conduct field work for long hours, in possible inclement weather conditions and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds

      Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and their own vehicle

 

Skill Requirements

      Restraint - the company prohibits any social media posting of work-related content and violation is a termination offense.

      Confidence in the construction environment

      Proficiency in use of tablets and standard office software

      Excellent field notes

      Experience in paleontology a plus

      Ability to work independently with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team

      Self-motivated with strong initiative

 

Compensation

Competitive pay rate is commensurate with education and experience.
