Archaeological Field Technician-Southeastern Virginia ($18-22/hr.)

Salary Range: $18-22.00/hr. with $59/day per diem

HDR, Inc is in need of motivated archaeological field technicians for a 10-day Phase I Survey during the last 2 weeks of August 2019.   

 

Responsibilities: Archaeological Field Technicians are responsible for conducting shovel testing, pedestrian survey and site documentation, which includes feature and artifact identification and analyses; site descriptions; photographs; and mapping.  GPS (ArcPad) experience is a plus.  Archaeological field technicians are required to perform the following tasks in the field:

·        Excavate up to 20 shovel tests a day

·        Walk up to 6 miles a day

·        Identify historic and prehistoric artifacts correctly

·        Conduct archaeological survey and testing

·        Complete sketch maps of sites

·        Complete field forms accurately and concisely

·        Use Trimble GPS units

·        Photograph resources

Qualifications:  Qualified candidates should possess, at minimum, a bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field and have completed an accredited archaeological field school.  Candidates must have experience identifying and recording prehistoric and historic resources within the Mid-Atlantic/Southeastern US. Candidates must also have a minimum of 6 months of field experience (e.g., survey, testing, and data recovery). Candidates must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in adverse environmental conditions (e.g., remote locations, hot temperatures).  Candidates should also have good organizational skills, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and execute new tasks.
