Hiring Field Technicians in Colorado and Wyoming

Metcalf Archaeological Consultants, Inc. is accepting applications for Archaeological Technicians for several projects located primarily in Colorado and Wyoming. Archaeological Technicians perform field work and other tasks under the direction of a Project Manager, Project Director, or Crew Chief, usually conducting surveys, testing, or data recovery excavations. Laboratory and office tasks may also be assigned as necessary.

These are temporary, hourly positions. Projects may be located in Colorado, Wyoming, or adjacent states and may require extended field time, typically on a 9 days on, 5 days off schedule, although schedules will vary from project to project. Per-diem (typically $51 per day) and lodging are provided for all project work requiring overnight stays away from your home office. The pay rate will be $14- $18 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Tasks

  • Assist in the surface inventory of project areas; this may include testing and excavation of recorded sites
  • Participate in the recording and mapping of discoveries during surface inventories
  • Document artifacts discovered during surveys, site testing, or site excavation using written descriptions, drawings, and photographs as necessary
  • Record location and condition of artifacts using various field equipment
  • Process collected artifacts in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Assist with preparations for fieldwork; this includes maintaining and preparing tools, equipment, vehicles, and supplies
  • Drive a four-wheel drive vehicle legally and safely
  • Carry out basic artifact cleaning and cataloging tasks in the laboratory
  • Enter site forms and perform other basic data entry as required
  • Perform other duties as directed by supervisors

Qualifications

  • B.A. in Anthropology or History (commensurate field experience will be accepted in lieu of a degree)
  • Field skills (site recording, mapping, artifact collection, excavation, etc.) meet or exceed company expectations for the position
