DovetailCRG

Dovetail Cultural Resource Group is seeking two Archaeological Technicians for a Phase II project in Alexandria, Virginia. The schedule is comprised of 10-hour workdays, Monday, September 23, through Thursday, September 26. Hotel and per diem will be provided for non-local crew members.

Dovetail Cultural Resource Group is a woman-owned firm with offices in Fredericksburg, Virginia and Wilmington, Delaware, performing projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic. The primary responsibility of the Archaeological Technician is to perform archaeological fieldwork, though responsibilities may also extend to performing background research, working in the laboratory, or performing data entry or similar office tasks. Work is on a project-by-project basis, and schedules are generally Monday through Friday.

Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field and an accredited archaeological field school are preferred, though a minimum of four years of archaeological field experience within the cultural resource management industry may be substituted for education. Ability to dig, kneel, and crouch for extended periods of time, lift at least 40 pounds, and maintain adequate physical fitness to perform field tasks is critical, as is the ability to work outdoors in hot or cold temperatures, in conditions that may include wind, rain, and/or snow.

Preferred Skills and Experience: Prior field experience in cultural resource management is highly desirable. Archaeological technicians should be able to prioritize tasks and maintain an organized approach to work and should possess effective verbal and written communication skills. A working knowledge of standard archaeological field methods is important, including a basic understanding of data collection using handheld GPS units and the ability to read maps and use a compass. Applicants should have a basic understanding of the National Register of Historic Places Criteria for Evaluation and of the primary themes of prehistory and history in Dovetail’s service area.
