Archaeological Field Technicians Needed in Pacific Northwest (Oregon/Washington experience)



North Wind Resource Consulting

North Wind Resource Consulting, LLC, (North Wind) an enterprise of the Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI), an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC), is seeking a qualified Archaeological Field Technician to assist with a cultural resources inventory projects primarily in Oregon and Washington. Additional experience in Great Basin (UT and NV) is considered a plus. Successful applicants must be in good physical condition, capable of carrying loads up to 50 lbs., and have experience performing pedestrian surveys and shovel probe excavation and screening under a variety of field conditions. Camping experience is helpful and may be required if project is in remote locations. Must have skills and previous experience documenting prehistoric and historical period archaeological sites of varying complexity. The applicant should have the ability to work independently and efficiently as part of the site documentation team and compile detailed field notes. Qualifications

Applicants must have a minimum of a B.A. degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or a closely related field, as is completion of an accredited field school and demonstrated previous experience in archaeological survey and site documentation. 

Responsibilities

  • Ensures that data collected is accurate, organized and of high quality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to accurately identify historic and prehistoric artifacts and features
  • Takes photographs of field work and maintains a daily log of activities.
  • Documenting archaeological sites in compliance with a particular agencies’ guidelines and requirements.
  • Works well with project team members and maintain a high level of communication regarding status of work product.
  • Operate a Garmin or Trimble GPS unit as needed

Physical Demands

Position will require the ability to undertake extensive physical exertion, such as walking up to 10 hours a day at speeds of up to 3 mph in sometimes challenging terrain and other environmental conditions (uneven, dissected, sloped, heavily wooded landscapes; outdoor heat /cold, wind, snow or rain; potential presence of poisonous plants and insects and animals. Ability to pack up to 50 lbs. of equipment; ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.; ability to excavate and screen up to 1 cubic meter per day; potential contact.  Individual must be able to conduct these tasks while wearing the appropriate personal protective equipment.  This work may be performed in remote locations and include camping.
