Overview


SWCA is expanding its team and looking for dynamic individuals who are following their passion in delivering the highest-quality project work. We have an opportunity for a Cultural Resources Crew Chief based out of our Denver and Fort Collins, Colorado offices. With our network of offices across the US, we have the ability to move our field staff rapidly to meet these needs. Initial fieldwork will be in support of our other offices across the country through the winter and early spring, after which work will transition in support of our Rocky Mountain/Plains projects in the summer.

This position is a temporary, on-call, hourly position, with the potential to transition to a full-time hourly position with benefits. Demonstrated field leadership is required, and a history of being listed on archaeological permits is preferred. Pay rate will be based on individual qualifications and experience. Our Denver and Fort Collins offices specialize in cultural and natural resources services within a relaxed work environment. We take pride in rapidly delivering on client needs, which can lead to extended field efforts with abundant overtime compensation. Per diem, lodging, and travel are provided for all fieldwork.



Responsibilities


  • Leading cultural resource field crews.
  • Performing fieldwork (survey, testing, and potentially construction monitoring) and assisting Field Directors, Project Managers, and Principal Investigators with cultural resources tasks, including historic architecture survey and reporting).
  • Complex coordination of client/consultant interaction, land access, field crew progress, and daily data transfer and management.
  • Technical reporting, including archaeological reports and all associated documentation and data forms.
  • Successful candidates will be able to thrive in our team-oriented approach to project completion.
  • Responsible for site form preparation/review and associated research.
  • Effective communication and teamwork across multiple disciplines, both internally and externally.
  • Data QA/QC, organization, and tracking of field data, and collecting GPS data using Trimble units and/or tablet computers.
  • Implementation, enforcement, and documentation of SWCA Safety standards for self and crews. Conduct morning tailgate meetings as applicable.
  • Management and maintenance of field equipment.
  • Ensuring that field teams are prepared for field activities

 

Qualifications


  • A Bachelor's degree in anthropology or a closely related field is required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Current listing as a Registered Professional Archaeologist (or qualified for RPA status) preferred.
  • Strong leadership and supervision abilities, including problem solving, constructive conflict resolution, and decision making.
  • Team player with strong ability take initiative and solve problems using sound judgment.
  • The ability to travel and conduct fieldwork for long hours and extended periods, sometimes in inclement weather, rugged terrain, and at high altitudes, and ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds.
