CLOSING SOON - Spring 2020 Internship Opportunity at American Museum of Natural History

RCajigas

The North American Archaeology Department at the American Museum of Natural History is now accepting applications for our spring 2020 semester. Our interns will staff the North American Archaeology (NAARCH) Lab. The NAARCH Lab handles, stores, and analyzes a wide variety of artifacts from St. Catherines Island. Past interns have had the opportunity to work with Native American lithics, pottery, and beads and Spanish colonial material culture. Lab techniques include fine-fraction sorting, cataloging, and basic artifact analysis.

Individuals interested in participating in the NAARCH internship should be highly motivated, patient, and detail-oriented. Prior archaeological experience either in the field or in the lab is not necessary but will be a factor in our selection.

Internship positions are unpaid volunteer positions with museum perks while working in the lab in New York. Course credit may be offered to those individuals currently enrolled in an accredited university. The term of the internship will be from mid-January to mid-April. Interns will be scheduled to work 3 days a week.

In addition to lab work, interns will also be considered for our ongoing fieldwork program in Georgia, USA. Our fieldwork package offers room and board, transportation, and a small monetary stipend for two-three weeks.

Applications will be accepted until December 1st, 2019. Interested applicants should send the application, a resume and a 1-page statement of purpose to amusch@amnh.org. Please include the contact information for three references. The statement of purpose should briefly outline the applicant's prior experience in archaeology as well as their future plans within the discipline. Applications may also be sent via mail to:
