Cultural Resources Project Manager - SWCA Environmental Consultants (Salt Lake City, UT)

Our Salt Lake City office offers a unique work environment and conducts archaeological survey and data recovery projects of all types and sizes in the Intermountain West.

Your role will be to manage archaeological projects and oversee reporting to ensure scientific rigor and regulatory sufficiency as part of a larger project management team. You will also be expected to play a leadership role in the program including mentoring junior staff, encouraging teamwork and cooperation, and driving overall scientific and business excellence.


Manage all aspects of projects, including fieldwork, research, and report writing, with responsibility for successful on-time and on-budget completion of projects. Take leadership in business development and marketing. Coordinate productively with clients and agency representatives. Supervise, direct, and instruct personnel in the field and in the office. Conduct and oversee fieldwork, including inventory, data recovery, and monitoring. Conduct and oversee laboratory analysis and office-based research. Prepare proposals and technical documents.



  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Cultural Resource Management required; preferred experience includes working on a variety of project types and sizes, on all project aspects (from pre-field tasks through final report preparation), in multiple regions, and with a variety of regulatory agencies
  • Eligibility for BLM permits in Great Basin and/or Colorado Plateau required; work experience in Utah and/or Nevada preferred
  • Advanced skills and knowledge in one or more specialty areas within archaeology (prehistoric or historic) required
  • Primary report authorship in a CRM context and experience providing quality control review of field documents, site forms and reports required; experience as a CRM project Principal Investigator preferred
  • Experience leading large field crews preferred
