This position is responsible for the oversight of field research, data collection, inventory, analysis to final report production which is to be in compliance with quality standards for the technical work completed in accordance with various agency requirements and guidelines and general standards of scientific quality.  Other aspects of this role will be managing budgets, preparing proposals, interacting with clients and managing other technical professionals.  


·        Direct technical work

·        Provide expertise with regulatory compliance at federal, state and local levels

·        Agency coordination

·        Prepare scopes of work and budgets

·        Lead fieldwork

·        Author large technical reports, research designs, treatment plans and other technical documents, as appropriate and needed

·        Provide artifact analysis


·        Master of Arts/Science in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field

·        5 years' experience supervising archaeological surveys, artifact analysis and report writing on projects in Texas

·        Preferred demonstration, at a PI level, of completion of a minimum of three or more substantial projects involving primarily archaeological investigations and preparation of final reports consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archeology and Historic Preservation. Projects shall have been performed under the jurisdiction of the National Historic Preservation Act. Previous experience at the PI-level on at least one, substantial linear or transportation survey is preferred. "Substantial" projects include archaeological data recovery or other sufficiently complex field effort to minimize or mitigate adverse effects to archaeological resources

·        Candidate must have 4 years of experience in San Antonio/Bexar County with preferred experience on historic and Spanish Colonial sites.

·        Proven ability to direct and mentor field and lab technicians

·        Working knowledge of Section 106 of the NHPA, Antiquities Code of Texas, and NEPA

·        No permits in default

·        Experience writing technical reports from start to finish

·        Experience in working on testing and data recovery projects 

·        Must be able to work in the field; in various terrain and weather conditions on a consistent basis

·        Must be able to work independently

·        Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged time periods; dig with a variety of hand tools, bend, kneel, and stand

·        Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs such as a bucket filled with rocks or soil; boxes of stone artifacts
