Southern California Cultural Resources Monitors

 

Cogstone Resource Management Inc. seeks reliable, responsible monitors to perform work in the San Diego and El Centro areas of California. Work is anticipated to consist of full time work for up to a year.  Work may be up to 6 days per week, 10 hours days. Overtime will be paid. Knowledge of California prehistoric and historical archaeology is desired.

 

Job Description

Monitors are responsible to document project activities, monitor construction BMPs, identify cultural resources in the event of an unanticipated discovery, and ensure construction does not impact culturally sensitive areas.  Ability to work well with construction crews and colleagues and to follow specific protocols is necessary.  Previous monitoring experience is preferred but not required.   

 Qualifications

  • ·         BA in archaeology
  • ·         Two years of experience is preferred
  • ·         Competency in field and laboratory work
  • ·         Ability to conduct field work for long hours, in possible inclement weather conditions and the ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
  • ·         Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, good driving record
  • ·         Supervisory experience a plus 

Skill Requirements

  • ·         Confidence in the construction environment
  • ·         Proficiency in use of tablets and standard office software
  • ·         Excellent field notes
  • ·         Experience with construction crews a plus
  • ·         Fossil preparation experience also a plus
  • ·         Ability to work independently with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team
  • ·         Self-motivated with strong initiative

Compensation

Competitive pay rate is commensurate with education and experience.
