Buffalo, NY Area Phase IB - Local Archaeological Field Technicians Needed


Title:  Local Temporary Archaeological Field Technicians for the Buffalo, NY area

Salary: Commensurate with Experience starting at $15/hr.

Location: Grand Island, New York

Start Date: The week of March 23, 2020

End Date:  No later than April 10, 2020

Archaeology & Historic Resource Services, LLC (AHRS) is seeking qualified local temporary archaeological field technicians, located within 50 miles, for a Phase IB project in Grand Island, New York. Applicants should have a minimum of a BA/BS degree in anthropology/archaeology, a field school plus one year of field experience. Experience in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic is helpful. The field schedule will be a 6-day work week, with paid overtime beyond 40-hours in a work week. Work weeks start on Sunday and end on Saturday.

Archaeological field technicians must possess basic archaeological field skills and conditions including:

·        Ability to identify local cultural materials in the field

·        Ability to take legible comprehensive notes and fill out archaeological forms

·        Ability to read topographic and project maps

·        Ability to perform archaeological surveys and excavations

·        Ability to stand for long hours and walk over long distances

·        Ability to carry 30 lbs. over rough terrain during the course of an 8-hour work day

        Ability to work 15 days of field work (approximately 3 weeks), including two Saturdays

·        Must be able to excavate 15 STP’s a day in wet clay soils

·        Ability to work in extreme climatic conditions, wet, cold or hot weather

·        Ability to clearly communicate with archaeological supervisors (field director or crew chief)

·        The ability to get to and from the job site every day on your own

 Archaeological field techs must have proper hard toe (steel, ceramic, etc.) work boots and appropriate field clothing. Safety glasses will be provided. Gloves are optional and recommended as the soils will be wet and clayey.
