Position: Temporary Cultural Resources Intern

Starting Salary Range: $18.00 per hour

Basic Purpose: The Oklahoma Military Department (OMD) is seeking to immediately hire a temporary employee to assist in cultural resource management within the Environmental Management Branch at Camp Gruber Training Center, Braggs, Oklahoma. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the OMD Cultural Resources Manager (CRM) with various cultural resource-related tasks, e.g. archival research, archaeological site monitoring, and in-house cultural resource surveys.

 

Essential Functions:

·         Archaeological site monitoring, including:

o   Verifying location of archaeological sites

o   Performing site condition assessments

o   Updating site documentation

·         Archaeological isolate find assessments

·         Conduct in-house cultural resource investigations, as needed, under supervision of CRM

·         Conduct field inspections of work in progress by archaeological contractors

·         Monitor ground-disturbing activities

·         Assist with maintaining cultural resource-related databases and GIS files

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The qualified candidate should possess technical knowledge of archaeological methods and applicable cultural preservation laws and regulations. Archaeological experience in Oklahoma or Southeastern US preferred.  The qualified candidate should also be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Access).  Knowledge of ArcGIS software is a plus, but not necessary.  The qualified candidate should be able to use GPS equipment (e.g. Trimble Geo XT) and digital cameras.

 

Education and Experience:  The qualified candidate must hold a bachelor or master degree in anthropology, archaeology, or related field, OR be currently enrolled as an upperclassman undergraduate or a graduate student pursuing a degree in Anthropology, or related field, with an emphasis in archaeology and knowledge or experience in archaeological fieldwork.

 

Licenses/Certificates required: Valid Driver’s license

 

Physical Requirements:

·         Must be able to lift/carry a minimum of 40 pounds

·         Must be able to bend and stoop

·         Must be able to work outside in rugged terrain for long periods of time in various weather conditions

 

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Employment is in the unclassified service as an employee at will
  • Contingent on a favorable NCIC/OSBI background check
  • Contingent on passing pre-employment drug & alcohol screening
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Able to work if called in due to an emergency
  • Temporary employee with no benefits
  • FLSA Non-exempt status
  • Duty hours will be 6:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Temporary employees can work a maximum of 29 hours per week

 

Location:  Camp Gruber Training Center, Braggs, OK which is an Army National Guard training facility, near Braggs, Oklahoma.  Braggs is approximately 14 miles east of Muskogee and 60 miles southeast of Tulsa.  Lodging and per diem are not provided.

 

Employment eligibility verified through E-Verify (Homeland Security), and a National Agency check for positions that require computer access.

 

Travel will be required at the expense of the employee to be reimbursed within 45 days of travel claim. Current policy in place allows for the Travel Coordinator to cover airfare and hotel expenses up front
