Seasonal Archaeologist - US Army Corps of Engineers -- Riverdale, ND

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Garrison Project, in Riverdale, North Dakota is currently accepting applications for a seasonal archaeologist position for the 2020 field season.  Position will last from May to September 2020; specific start and end dates are flexible.  The position primarily consists of field work geared towards assisting Project Archaeologists with the Lake Sakakawea site monitoring program, and other cultural resource management tasks  on US Army Corps managed lands.  The selected applicant will perform developmental duties of archaeological work requiring knowledge of professional archaeological principles, theories, concepts methods and techniques. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist in collecting and identifying archaeological information from a variety of sources in accordance with specific instructions and established procedures
  • Assist in the planning and conducting of cultural resource investigations including records and literature searches, archival studies, and field work consisting of reconnaissance and surveys, test excavations, and data recovery excavations.
  • Assist in reviewing and identifying properties that are eligible for the National Register of Historic Places
  • Assist senior staff in consulting with project managers, State Historic Preservation Officers, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation by observing methods and procedures to be used.

Applicants should have at least a B.A. or B.S. in Anthropology, Archaeology or related field.  GIS experience is preferred but not required.
