Position Summary

Quality Services, Inc. is seeking motivated, experienced paleontologists for temporary employment for 2020, with work likely starting in late March or April.  


The positions include conducting surveys and/or monitoring and recording fossil resources, excavating localities, analyzing results, and preparing documentation including locality forms and reports.  The fieldwork will be focused in the Badlands National Park and possibly other areas in Montana and South Dakota.  Applicants are required to walk up to 10 miles per day in remote and sometimes difficult terrain while carrying materials and supplies.  Personnel must be able to sit, stoop, bend, climb, and use hand tools, shovels, and screening and other field equipment.  Variable and inclement weather conditions are expected. 


Fieldwork will generally be 10-hours days.  Lodging and per diem will be provided during work days for fieldwork when overnight stays are required.  Wet weather and field conditions may result in work schedule delays or cancelled work days.  Schedules will be variable and may include partial or full (10+ hours) days.  The schedule may also require working weekends and holidays. 


Minimum Pay Rates:

Starting at $17.00/hour, plus experience pay.


Minimum Requirements

1.      Bachelor’s degree in geology or biology, or equivalent.

2.      One year/2 semesters of graduate level paleontology courses.

3.      1 year of field and/or museum experience with vertebrate fossils and geology from the White River Badlands or equivalent formation.

4.      Valid driver’s license with record acceptable to our insurance company.
