Senior Archaeologist - Jacksonville, Fl

General Responsibilities:

Conduct cultural resource assessment investigations, desktop studies, reconnaissance, site evaluations, and data recovery investigations. A senior archaeologist is also expected to be able to write technical reports, desktop studies, and to be able to efficiently communicate to direct reports and supervisors through writing and verbal platforms. Laboratory supervision and analysis is also an important aspect of this job position.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Experience in all levels of archaeological excavations (reconnaissance, Phase I CRAS, Site Evaluation, and Data Recoveries).
  • Knowledgeable with regards to the various artifact analysis and laboratory methodologies.
  • The ability to find and interpret primary and secondary sources, including online resources.
  • Thoroughly understands federal, state, and local regulations as they pertain to cultural resource management.
  • Experience writing technical reports that have been approved by the various review agencies (County, SHPO, and USACE).
  • Proficient with Microsoft products, GPS, and Collector, as well as other mapping tools.
  • May oversee work performed by lower level scientists/engineers and Technicians.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in cultural resource management/academic research.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Meets the requirements for membership with the Register of Professional Archaeologists.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
