Architectural Historian - Western States

Espinoza Consulting Services (ECS) has immediate openings for an Architectural Historian/Historic Preservation Specialist to support numerous projects in the western and Rocky Mountain states. The position is permanent/salaried and includes competitive wages and company benefits (after a three-month probationary period). All candidates MUST have experience in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and/or Wyoming. The most immediate needs are in Colorado and California. Experience with cold war resources is also desirable. Travel is also an absolute requirement of employment and all positions will include housing and/or per diem. Duty station is flexible; Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, or Texas preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, or Public History
  • Secretary of the Interior Qualified in Architectural History and History
  • Five to ten years of experience preparing and delivering historic contexts, architectural history documents/reports, and architectural mitigative documentation

Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of the architecture of the western region; experience with military architecture is also desirable.
  • Experience writing and reviewing NRHP eligibility evaluations and nominations.
  • Ability to research and prepare historic contexts
  • Direct experience with historic building surveys, historic structure reports, HABS/HAER documentation, and cemetery assessments.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Tribal cultural resource regulations.
  • Strong field, photographic, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills with both internal and external teams
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Ability to assign tasks, monitor status, and assure timely accomplishment of workload.
  • Instruct employees in special tasks (as needed).
  • Experience with ArcGIS 10 is desirable.
  • Must have a clean driver’s license.
