What We're Looking For

HNTB is currently seeking a Senior Archaeologist with a Master's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field. The Senior Archaeologist will be part of a growing team of cultural resource professionals in the HNTB Atlanta office and will apply a sound knowledge of the principles and theories of archaeology/anthropology to analyze the potential effects projects may have on cultural resources. The Senior Archaeologist may be responsible for completing moderate to complex projects.

Primary Focus Will Include:

  • Serves as Principal Investigator on Phase I, II, and III projects
  • Prepares technical reports for public and private clients
  • Reviews and evaluates technical reports prepared by others
  • Provides technical advice and assistance to project managers and other personnel regarding impacts to archaeological resources
  • Works closely with HNTB staff, clients, and federal/state agency personnel
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's Degree in Anthropology/Archaeology or a closely related field
  • Meets Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Archaeology
  • At least five years of experience as a Principal Investigator on Phase I, II, and III projects
  • Demonstrated ability to carry research to completion
  • Familiarity with NEPA, NHPA, ARPA, NAGPRA, and various state environmental compliance laws
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Able to maintain effective working relationships with HNTB, clients, and agency staff
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Previous experience working with ArcGIS and various GPS units preferred
  • Previous experience completing archaeological projects for various state DOT agencies preferred
  • Field experience in the southeastern United States is preferred

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Archeology, Anthropology or related field
  • 5 years related experience
  • 3 years related experience (with Master's degree in Natural Sciences)
