Hiring: Utah Cultural Site Stewardship Coordinator

The Department of Heritage & Arts is seeking a Cultural Site Stewardship Coordinator to work in the Utah Division of State History. This position will require overnight travel. This position may be located in our Salt Lake City offices or via tele-work anywhere within the State of Utah.

Principle Duties
As the Cultural Site Stewardship Coordinator you will typically:

  • Work with federal and state partners to facilitate volunteer steward duties.
  • Manage the recruitment of volunteer stewards.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of volunteers, their hours, the archaeological sites within the program and other program data. 
  • Resolve disputes between volunteer stewards and federal/state land managers.
  • Intake, data quality verification, and processing archaeological site data from volunteer stewards.
  • Develop and perform Site Stewardship training that will include a classroom component and a field practicum.
  • Oversee the ingestion and rectification of previously-generated Steward data from a variety of state and federal agencies.
  • Support the continuing improvement of archaeological outreach.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal person for this position will possess: 
  • Excellent verbal, writing, customer service and communication skills.
  • Experience with ArcGIS, Survey 123, and other Geographic Information Systems software and components.
  • The ability to work in a flexible team environment.
  • The ability to plan, organize and prioritize time and workload in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and social networking.
  • A background and familiarity in Utah archaeology, both prehistoric and historic.
  • A Utah Principal Investigator Permit issued by the  Utah Public Lands Policy coordinating Office, or be able to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
